January 19, 2018 News from Member MEPAs - TURMEPA

The whole world is mobilized for cleaner seas. Under the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) campaign, sea volunteers in more than 100 countries, including Turkey, met on coasts on September 16 to leave more blue seas to future generations!

Held on the third Saturday of September every year, the event has been carried out in Turkey under the coordination of TURMEPA since 2002. TURMEPA, which rolled up its sleeves once again to clean up the shores of our three seas in the framework of the International Coastal Cleanup campaign, aims at drawing attention to sea pollution with the event and raising awareness about the importance of keeping the seas clean.

The Istanbul leg of the campaign was carried out in Büyükada Aya Nikola Bay, which is connected to the district of Adalar. Within the scope of the campaign, TURMEPA extended its helping hand to the coasts of Izmir, Antalya, Bodrum and Fethiye in addition to Istanbul. A total of 750 kilograms of garbage were collected at the event where more than 200 volunteers across Turkey participated.
